Arugam Bay has not been previously known for its luxury accommodation options but there are now a handful of higher-quality places to stay that range between 3 and 4 star hotels.
Kottukal Beach House by Jetwing
This is probably the only true “luxury” option and is located directly on the beach in Pottuvil 4km north of Arugam Bay. The surrounding coastal area is completely undeveloped and perfect for those seeking solitude and a quiet getaway as it consists only of two rooms and two chalets. It is close to Pottuvil Point surf spot and the lagoon conservation area. It comes with a private pool and spa facilities including massage if required. See Kottukal Beach House on Booking.com.
The Blue Wave Hotel
The largest hotel in Arugam Bay situated at the half way point in the bay but the wrong side of the road for direct beach access. It is less for couples seeking a romantic getaway and more for families seeking a pool for the kids, a spa, a gym and a games room. See Blue Wave Hotel on Booking.com.
The Spice Trail
Excellent location for access to the Arugam Bay surf points but also the wrong side of the road for beach access. They opened a new pool in 2017 and offer a selection of spacious villas and probably the most gourmet restaurant option in town. See Spice Trail on Booking.com.
Arugambay Roccos
Brand new development in prime position on the beach in Arugam Bay. All rooms have balconies, most with sea views, and a large pool sits just a few steps away. Unfortunately, the modern white concrete buildings do not merge well with the natural appearance of the neighbouring hotels and beach. Hideaway
The first high quality option that existed in Arugam Bay is still going strong after 30 years and a new pool keeps it in this category. It offers well-designed villas and bungalows and another gourmet dining option. Perfection would be moving it the other side of the road to the beach!
Whiskey Point
Two new hotels, both offering private villas and rooms surrounding a pool are now on offer at Whiskey Point, 7km north of Arugam Bay.
