Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
The easiest method to get a 30 day tourist visit visa is by applying online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). The only countries exempt from needing an ETA are Singapore, the Maldives and the Seychelles. The official website to get an ETA is:
There are many other unofficial websites which will charge you more or scam you completely. The advice is to only use the official website.
ETA Cost
For SAARC countries the cost is 20USD and for all other countries it is 35USD. The ETA is free for all children under 12 years of age.
ETA Requirements
The only information that is checked from an ETA on arrival is your passport number and date of birth. If there is an error in the spelling of your name or other information it should not cause a problem. There is also no requirement to show proof of your ETA at immigration.
Visa on Arrival
An ETA is not required to board a flight and travel to Sri Lanka. A visit visa can be obtained on arrival although the cost is 5USD more than obtaining the ETA. All major foreign currencies and credit cards can be used to purchase a visa on arrival.
