Dengue Fever in Arugam Bay

After receiving a large number of emails on the subject of dengue fever in Arugam Bay we decided to release this update.

Arugam Bay lies on the East Coast and is located in the Ampara district. This is one of the least affected areas in Sri Lanka. Follow this link to the Government dengue information page for the 2017 statistics.

There have been a number of dengue cases to the north in Kalmunai (75km away) and Batticaloa. In 2017, four tourists were treated in Pottuvil hospital for dengue fever but it is believed they contracted the disease when they were staying on the South Coast prior to arriving.

The medical officer in Pottuvil has stated that no locals in the area have been affected by the virus this year.
